Welcome

WYD 2008 is over, but tucked into those back packs, and soon to be distributed to all those students who weren't able to make the trip to Sydney, were small Compendiums of the Catechism of the Catholic Church. An online intro to help you unpack the Compendium's contents via its art will be posted on RESource very soon.

What's On

National RCIA Conference 11-14 September. The ACN has put together a program for the national conference that all will find helpful and formative. Details: Fr Greg Bourke  or phone (03) 9412 3323.

Multifaith Week is on from September 21-27 Each day of this week, different places of worship will be opened to all who wish to pray together. Contact;  Jessiee Kaur Singh 0411300 655 for details.

Using Catholic Studies and Catholic Ethical Thinking in the Classroom: 7th October (Moorabin) and 9th October (Moonee Valley). Half day programs to help teachers use these texts effectively in the classroom. Enrol through CEVN.

This years Social Justice statement: A Rich Young Nation: the Challenge of Poverty and Affluence in Australia? A summary, liturgy notes and teacher's notes are included on the Australian Catholic Social Justice website 

Searching for free images you can use in powerpoints etc? Flickr is one good source. Click on an image you want and the 'Additional Information' to the right of it tells you immediately its conditions of use.  

We've mentioned it before, but Richard Martin's The Narrow Gate is a helpful introduction to many topics in Scripture and Early Church History.

The debate over the issue of abortion, its morality and its legality, is again very much 'in the news'. Paul Austin draws attention to the risks involved in Victoria's proposal to decriminalise abortion.

An interesting ethical point of view in regard to our obligation to relieve the poverty of others versus our human desire for a fulfilling personal life and whether these are in conflict is addressed in this report on the Eureka prize winner. 

The Olympic Games are just over, Melbourne's climactic footy moment is on the horizon, but how do you cope if you love to play sport but have a disability. Some can participate in the Paralympics but what about others?
